THROUGH THE YEARS : A Singapore DIY Hardcore Punk Exhibition
A full exhibition and event celebrating & documenting the Singaporean Hardcore Punk Scene!
This is a request for submissions.
A few individuals and collectives from the DIY hardcore punk circle will be curating a monumental exhibition that would depict the Singapore hardcore punk community that has been existing from the early 90s (perhaps even the late 80s), all the way through to the modern day.
This is a request for contributions, be it in material (photos, videos, archives, flyers, posters, zines, tapes, Cds, etc) or ideas or thoughts.
This exhibition aims to showcase DIY hardcore punk bands/collectives/individuals and, concurrently, how the aesthetics and ideas of this counterculture – which has existed for so long with minimal interference from corporate entities – has had an impact on our own personal lives.
This exhibition will cover not only bands, zines and distros, but also record labels, stores that have helped build this community, and even weekend hang outs where punks used to (and perhaps still do) exchange thoughts, music and literature, or just have plain good fun. Not every aspect can be covered of course as a lot has gone on in the past 15 years or so, but we will try to cover every bit as possible.
This is where we need your help.
At the moment, there is a core team behind this but we are looking specifically for those who can contribute
– photos (either hard copies or in computer file formats)
– old posters of gigs, zines, etc
– old videos of gigs, events
– technical knowledge (those with exhibition experience lah haha)
Those who contribute their material can have it returned upon request. The organizers will go through great lengths to ensure that happens.
The proposed exhibition, will hopefully run between 3 days to a full week. We are currently considering a few venues and the probable month of this happening would be September 2006, or slightly later.
This is not a project which belongs to a few individuals. This belongs to all of us, for we have been a part of this scene in one way or another.

Material deadline : 31 May 2006
