RAIDED!! Saturday, 31st December 2005: This Year’s Final Threat @
Paul’s Place Balai Polis Brickfields
REPORT 8.00 PM: Read the report by Rafil above and you’ll know more.
Somebody mentioned that there were 3 persons who were tested positive for drugs from 380 kids who were forcibly brought to the Brickfields police station. If that’s true then we have 4 persons (including Paul Place’s David) still inside and awaiting Tuesday to be brought to the courts, at which point friends and family members can apply for bail. Which means that these poor souls will only be able to come out on Wednesday!!
REPORT 8.51 PM: Well, I caught the coverage on the raid both on TV3 & TV8. Basically, it’s looked like a Police media event. The chief of police mentioned something about Black Metal. Some kids were interviewed, all denied any involvement in Black Metal. Then there’s a shot showing some zines with “obscene words”.
here’s what someone wrote at MySpace:
Date: Jan 1, 2006 2:53 AM
Subject: TGK TV3 MALAM NI!!!
Body: Saw the tv3 news about the raid. Heres more or less of what I saw/heard from the news.
( i suspect words like fuck and shit).
And they did interview a couple of ppl, so they explain lah, its not black metal, despite the songs played are hard and keras. And theyre just there to play and enjoy music. Also, the police angkat this banner, of Abys uhmm clothing company, suicidalclothing, lama gila plak tu tunjuk. So imagine lah suicidal, lagilah.
Dammit la. Kesian gila budak2. Tak pasal2 kena.”
REPORT 3.16 AM: A friend called just now and told me that she heard there were about 500 kids! Dang! It could have been a barnstoming show! Called Fendi again just now and he said kids are being urine-tested, he’s not sure if it’s a random test, but if they wanna test 400+ kids, that’ll be a humongeous amount of urine isn’t it! Nothing has changed much from the last report though. It’s going to be a long night for our friends there. I’m really getting very agitated and frustrated by this bullshit though. We need to do something about it.
Anyway, on the bright side; it’s pretty heartwarming and funny to know that “THEY” still have this terrible fear about kids making music!! How ridiculous, and how puny their brains are. And how sad and tragic is their righteous fervour. Making punk a threat again? Yup! Achieved by not even lifting a finger too! Fear of the unknown!
REPORT 2.00 AM: Just got off the phone talking to Fendi. The kids are still there. According to Fendi there are now a lot of reporters and media at the police station, so expect a big report in the papers tomorrow. Fendi also said that the cops not only taken the kids inside the venue but also all outside of it, meaning those kids at the mamaks too! Fendi estimated roughly that there are about 400 kids at the police station now! including all the members of Force Vomit, also the Japanese band Crystal Lake and Jay of Free Love too!
Fendi also said that random drug testing are being carried out. Another shocking news is that all of the sound equipment at Paul’s Place were also consficated!! And the zines and CDs/tapes too…
REPORT 1.15 AM: This gig was raided by the police, A lot of kids were taken to the Brickfields police station. Right at this moment all of them are being “processed” (urine testing, records etc.) there. As far as I know, Kid & Fahmi (Mass Separation) and Fendi (C. Dung) were among them. Me and some friends were at Brickfields for a few hours waiting for new developments. Just now, before we left, Fendi said that they are having their pictures taken, but it should be done soon. And as far as Fendi is concerned, there’s no problem on his side. I worry about the others though.
Me and some friends headed there a bit late, as it was raining heavily in KL from about 6PM. Once we got there, at about 10.30PM, we saw a lot kids hanging out at the two mamaks, but there were also two Police vehicles blocking the two main streets. we decided to park at a bus-stand further up the road and tried to find out what’s happening by calling up friends who were inside Paul’s.
Apparently, the Police has blocked off Paul’s Place’s entrance, so everyone inside the venue can’t leave. A shorthwhile later we heard that all of them were taken on a Black Maria and brought to the station. How many? Who are they? I don’t know. My conversations with Fendi and Kid were very limited. Will know more once Fendi walks.
