AFTER THE BOMBS – Relentless Onslaught CD – RM30
Canadian Crust of the monsterful kind; rather dense-heavy shit! Includes the Terminal Filth Stench Bastard EP!
‚ÄúAt long last we have the hugely anticipated full length from Montreal’s AFTER THE BOMBS (members of HELLBOUND, KONTEMPT and ANOTHER OPPRESSIVE SYSTEM). What you have here are five epic late 80’s style crust-metal anthems (to the likes of SACRILEGE meets the metal redeaux ENGLISH DOGS) with raging female vocals and angry political lyrics. Definitely one of the “must have” albums of 2007.‚Äù – PE

ARMY OF FLYING ROBOTS – Life Is Cheap CD – RM30
Rabid dogs from the Nottingham forest!
‚ÄúTrue to form, their sound is still grimly pitched somewhere between the hardcore thump of Left For Dead and the octave-driven brutality of Uranus, but the technicality’s been tweaked and any remaining fat trimmed mercilessly away, as though this lot have been rigorously training for the life-or-death title fight to end them all. Needless to say, the ferocity of the music is matched blow-for-blow by Henry’s ravening crow caw, busting a gut to cough up fire, brimstone and no end of venom in order to rail against the seemingly endless catalogue of stupidities and injustices the human race is apparently capable of. Killer all round, basically.‚Äù – Collectivezine
‚Äú’this has great american steak religion written all over it. like uranus or one eyed god prophecy. like the screamier parts of orchid’s chaos is me with more of a focus on being epic and metal. the lyrics are what really grabbed me. i haven’t heard metal with politial lyrics like these since the days of suicide nation and creation is crucifixion. they have that slightly academic feel to them, written by someone with a passion for history. slip this to metalheads as a gateway to critical thinking. recommended.’ – Give me back

ART OF BURNING WATER – The Voyage Of The Pessimistic Philosoph: An Ode To Believers Of The Prevailing Law Of Sod CD – RM30
Explosive, relentless British tech-math-metal trio!
“Incredibly tight and brutal, AOBW create a half hour of totally panicked heavy technical metal hardcore. Think Mastodon, Keelhaul, Melvins, Craw, Botch and Zeni Geva, only faster!” Рrelapse
‚ÄúApart from the two last tracks that run for four respectively eight minutes, the different tracks are rarely longer than two minutes, a time span Art Of Burning Water use to pack as many chords and rhythm changes into their music as is humanly possible. So do expect mathcore of the most relentless kind, with vocals that cut like a chainsaw, guitars that deliver angular spikes and a rhythm section that is terrifyingly fast and precise. Like the more psychotic side of Today Is The Day, Art Of Burning Water create a kind of hatred of the highest technical skill, and even if at times you wonder if a mellower part wouldn’t give you time to exhale, you are also constantly astonished by their skill to add so many ideas into their condensed compositions.‚Äù – disagreement.net

ATTENTAT SONORE – Syndrome De Stockholm CD (Digipack) – RM25
French hardcore-punk mainstays! Been around since the late 80s and still kicking it hard!
Melodic anarcho-punk with dual-male/female vocals and sharp guitars, constant fleeting mid-tempo breakdowns and the singular-beat of the ol’ French punk rock and forays into hi-spirited street-punk, skanking reggae parts and simple straight-ahead raging hardcore-punk.

BEYOND DESCRIPTION – A Road To A Brilliant Future CD – RM25
Japanese thrashing, beefy old-school from the late-80s, with a relatively new release from 2004.
“Damn, talk about an ass kicking! Japan’s Beyond Description won me over right from the start with their unrelenting assault on the senses. These guys unleash a vicious attack that combines brutal crust punk, grind, thrash, hardcore and just plain metal into one hell of a sound. The tracks are short and fast with no punches pulled. The riffs fly by quicker than a stealth bomber and every one of them is memorable, guaranteed to stick to your brain long after listening. The rhythm section is tight and keeps things nailed down while the vocals are mostly an excellent mid-ranged growl/scream with some gang style back up vocals going on at times. I just love the variety of sounds on this thing and how they manage to pack in a lot of cool little change-ups into the relatively short songs. The guitar work is great and despite the riffs being fast as hell and mostly rooted in crust there’s some great nods to classic metal here and there. There’s some quick guitar leads in both “Belief” and “Wander” that are straight out of old school metal and the album has some really cool melodic elements going on as well. This is an excellent release from start to finish right up there with some of the best that Crimes Against Humanity has put out. If you like Urban Raw Head (who share the same label), I highly recommend you check this one out. If you dig that whole crossover crust/thrash sound that mixes in all kinds of different elements this is a must have. Excellent release with a great layout and packaging.” – daredevil.de

BILL BONDSMEN – Swallowed By The World CD – RM30
Detroit Returns To Its Rightful Pantheon of Greatness!!
‚ÄúThe Bill Bondsmen are not happy gentlemen. Not happy at all. Just one look at their faces is enough to confirm that there’s no small amount of barely suppressed rage boiling just beneath the surface. Of course, that’s the way it should be for a Midwestern hardcore band. History, in the shape of Negative Approach and the Necros among others, has proven that, if there’s anything this part of the country does better than most, it’s that combination of art and anger at its most pure. Take a gander around Detroit, the landscape reflects that.
There’s plenty to be pissed off with in Michigan. Those lucky to have employment undoubtedly know others who’re aren’t lucky. A high foreclosure rate is a foregone conclusion now, crime is rife, and some in a position of power never stop amazing us how intent they can be about abusing it. Pay any amount of attention, and it’d be easy to allow that rage to manifest itself in a destructive way.
Not the Bill Bondsmen, five Detroit-based men into their 30s who are turning that aggression into some of the dirtiest, most in-your-face hardcore punk rock heard in recent times.
On the surface, their sound is straightforward, boot-to-the-head hardcore. Vocalist Tony Bevaque is a crimson-faced disciple of Black Flag’s Henry Rollins and Negative Approach’s John Brannon. However, there’s a craft to guitarist Amado Guadarrama’s playing that lends a subtle groove rare to this genre of music outside of Poison Idea or Void, as heard on any of their six singles and their 2008 debut album, Swallowed By the World. The Bill Bondsmen is what happens when teenagers don’t outgrow a sort of accidental nihilism ‚Äî rather, it festers inside of them and erupts all over their audience.‚Äù – Read more: http://metrotimes.com/music/the-bill-bondsmen-are-pissed-off-1.1098683

BOMBSTRIKE – Born Into This CD – RM25
Brutal, unrelenting blasting Swedish heavy crust and D-Beat of the SKITSYSTEM school but with a more apocalyptic charge and death metal trimmings. The production here harks back to an almost ancient Black Metal feel, harsh and trebly! Rather unique in some ways, especially if you’re expecting the fatness heard on WOLFBRIGADE stuff!
‚ÄúIt’s time for Swedish war machine!. Breaking Grind / Punk / Crustcore is what I would like to call it, for the music perfectly captures the atmosphere of the resulting all round devastation and carnage. Born Into This is an extremely pessimistic album where feelings of frustration, anger, and despair are given expression through the medium of music. The vocalist in particular, with his hysterical shouts and wails, simultaneously laments and mocks the irrevocable degradation of living standards. 12 crusty hardcore tunes that falls somewhere between Skitsystem and Wolfbrigade. Great stuff, tight with all of the brutality and intensity you could need.‚Äù – firmailegale.blogspot.com

DISGUST – The Horror of It All CD – RM30
Ancient UK stalwarts of the D-word adamantly going dense on yr ass!
A pretty old release by DISGUST who who used to feature two members of ENT’s brutal repute, and two members of INSANE; with unrelenting mix of Swedish Hardcore, D-Beat Crust and bits of early beefy grindcore goodness. Veteran Earache merchants may remember them from the classic debut Brutality of War LP (1993), one of the few major releases to bring back Discharge-worship right to the fore-front beyond the 80s. The band then moved to Nuclear Blast with Motorhead’s Wurzel in their folds! Early noughties saw them coming back with 1 original member and this awesome rager!
‚ÄúFormer Earache and Nuclear Blast recording artists DISGUST have released a new album entitled ‘The Horror Of It All’ through Crimes Against Humanity records of America. The album shows a back to basics approach in terms of the sound and attitude. The whole thing was recorded and mixed in just 18 hours. No fucking around. Just a stripped down, brutal, no nonsense kick in the teeth. The band have kept the Discharge worship of old, but have added a faster, thrashier element, in tune with legends such as Raw Noise and Disrupt. It’s the most savage and abrupt album Disgust has put out to date. With seventeen tracks in little under 30 minutes, it can only be described as a relentless barrage of hardcore thrash!‚Äù – CAH

FLEAS & LICE – Prepare for Armageddon CD – RM25
Squat-Rock, Groningen-style!
‚ÄúEleven tracks of some of the best crust core punk rock The Netherlands has ever seen! In all seriousness, Groningen, Holland-based Fleas and Lice have been producing some of the catchiest punk rock heard on mainland Europe for the past decade. On their 3rd LP they added two Scotsmen to complete the line-up. You can’t overhear their influence on the new material. Musically this is mainly mid-tempo to fast punk rock with powerful twin buzz-saw gitars and gruff male and female vocals. The lyrics and packaging are Fleas and Lice’s signature blend of anarcho-punk politics, sarcasm wit, and just plain drunken antics, all designed to help get you through the drudgery of everyday survival.‚Äù – borxoff

HARUM SCARUM – Live in Slovenija CD – RM30
Portland, Oregon; has a lot to answer for!!
Seems like a long time ago now, but there‚Äôs a time HARUM-SCARUM was hugely popular over here. Formed in Portland in late 90’s, they released two 7″s and three LPs :”Mental Health”, “Suppose We Try” and “The Last Light”. This is a rare one, a live album recorded in 2000 in Slovenia. Born out of the anarcho-punk influence (both musical & ideological), the band had the melodies, the power and the rawness with three girls sharing raging vocal duties. They rule!

++++++++++++++++++++++++++

HOSTAGES OF AYATOLLAH РAnthology CD (Digipack with a DVD) РRM30

Arguably the first German band to ever release a full blown “hardcore-punk” 7” with their self-titled slab of 6 tracks back in 1985; HOA is sad totally unknown over here, or anywhere else that is! Or maybe you’ve heard of this other band TERRORGRUPPE? Okay, that the next band formed by HOA guitarist Jacho in 1992.

Along with THE SKEEZICKS and the more famous and successful THE SPERMBIRDS, HOSTAGES OF AYATOLLAH was a part of the new “hardcore” awakening of German youth in the mid-80s, introducing a more American HC outlook and sound to the punk rock underground.

This “Anthology” completes the collection of HOA starting from the 1985 debut 7” to songs from the split-LP with MANSON YOUTH and the final release Simply Too Much Lp (1988). Includes a DVD!

“A very nicely packaged anthology of tracks from one of the best American hardcore-inspired German bands of the ‘80s. They knew how to thrash things up with the best of ‘em, but they weren’t afraid in the least to make things catchy and tuneful at the same time, though the singer occasionally sounds like Snake from Voivod during that band’s War and Pain era.

Included is a fairly packed booklet with lotsa info on the band (though yer gonna need to be pretty fluent in German ‘cause that’s mostly what it’s written in) and a DVD with live footage and some videos for songs that were originally filmed to be part of a German punk film that was never released. Definitely worth hunting down.” – Jimmy Alvarado / Razorcake

ICEBURN (THE ICEBURN COLLECTIVE) – Land of the Wind & Ghosts CD (in A5 manila envelope) – RM30
The 90s Hardcore Innovators Reaching Their Zenith – Final album 2000.
‚ÄúThis is a 72 minute improvised noise masterpiece. If you haven’t heard Iceburn lately it’s because they’ve evolved from a metallic hardcore band to fusion to free jazz to noise. Iceburn are a collective of master musicians who make blistering music that both hardcore and creative music listeners will love. INSUICIETY – Believe and Die CD – RM25
Sludgy but nimble-footed Germans with cathartic, rumbling drive.
‚ÄúTotally devastating and refreshingly original doom/sludgecore here from this Berlin outfit. These guys (and girl) definitely carve their own bloody niche in this over-saturated genre, which has something to do with the occassionally off kilter rhythms a la DAMAD or KYLESA, but probably most to do with Ajka’s insane, accented vocals, making them sound like (to egregiously confuse cultures for a second) a female-Dracula-fronted EYEHATEGOD. Definitely recommended for fans of GRIEF, GRAVES AT SEA, and the aforementioned bands. Awesome cover art too.‚Äù – MRR

IN ARCADIA – If It Bleeds, We Can Kill It CD – RM25
Detroit’s sinewy melodic hardcore + emo.
“From the ashes of the notorious Florida hardcore bands Madison and Carlisle (which also featured members of As Friends Rust and Reversal of Man), guitarist/vocalist Joe Enos moved north to the wastelands of Detroit. He released a limited 4-song All Green Lights CDep on Handstand before teaming up with the members of what would be IN ARCADIA.
If It Bleeds, We Can Kill It is IN ARCADIA’s first full-length as a full band. It’s a melodious assault of hardcore in the vein of Anasarca or Falling Forward with the catchy melodies of early Piebald or Sunny Day Real Estate. Joe’s soaring guitars are both powerful and pretty, while his vocals range from uplifting harmonies to harsh wounded-animal screams. Blake Thomas provides the rhythm section, effortless delivering drum beats with guts and groove, while Corey Gass’s pulsating basslines catch you right in the throat. IN ARCADIA are driving, melodic, and most of all moving. This album features nine songs and clocks in at just under 33 minutes.‚Äù

IRE – I Discern An Overtone Of Tragedy In Your Voice CD – RM30
Depressive, soul-crushing dirgey, sludgy math-metal from Quebec. Welcome to the darkness indeed.
‚ÄúIre creates monstrous, desolate slow-motion nightmares out of drastically down-tuned guitars, roaring vocals, and painfully dragged tempos. These songs are genuinely eerie. A little double bass and even a blastbeat. And just how slow is Ire, you ask? Well, this CD is a half-hour long, and that’s just four songs.‚Äù – Stateofmindrecordings
“The secret success of Ire’s music is that they let their compositions breathe alive. This, of course, is achieved due to both the band’s performance and the record’s production. That’s why their tunes sound so threatening and gigantic. “I Discern an Overtone of Tragedy in Your Voice” is an EP release, chronicled back in 1998. It’s not that easy to place Ire’s music under certain labels since they have obvious influences the mixing of which builds an interesting musical hybrid. The rhythm sonar mostly indicates down-tempo and mid-tempo compositions. However, they can’t be described as a doom metal act. They sound more of a technical hardcore band like the unforgettable Catharsis. Plus, the ripped vocal lines of the band (so very sick) bring in mind the tactics of Stephen Bessac from mighty Kickback. In “Sympathy Trial” you can even listen to short black metal parts which are truly shocking. Moreover, the bass performance is tremendous and sounds so very huge. The guitars spit out disharmonic improvisations over their thick, austere play. For sure, this EP is heavy as fuck. It is also legendary in the hearts of fans since strange feelings occur in its content. Its humble power scents of obnoxious insticts. The fact that Ire chose to release this EP is of big importance since its time-length fails to pare down your enthusiasm, actually making you ask for even some more. Try this at any cost.” РMusikal Aesthetiks Webzine

ISKRA – Bureval Digipack CD – RM20
28-page booklet + 10 songs
“Iskra is a Canadian crust band that has leaned heavily black metal in the past, and is apparently focusing on the black metal aspect of their music even more in this recent release. The band takes its name from a Soviet newspaper, and is often brought up when people discuss the Red and/or Anarchist Black Metal scene. This album is just as furious and thrashy as the self-titled album, but I think I like this new one better, particularly since this drumming and a few of the riffs would fit in with any pvre kvlt Norwegian black metal band.” Рthechiefcommie

JINN – Jinn CD – RM30
Ferocious, progressive British modern-grind!
“Experience some full-on churning metal guitars, blast-beating drums and guttural roars for vocals courtesy of Newcastle-based quartet Jinn. Yep, they’re a grindcore band, and this album burns through 11 songs in the space of 21 minutes. It’s nothing you haven’t heard before, but Jinn become an increasingly impressive prospect during the course of this album – huge blasts of uber-distorted guitars judder to a halt as the band turns on a dime to begin a new musical passage, quickly shifting gears between songs that deliver blow after sickening blow to the head. They’ve been described as the UK’s best hardcore band, and this is probably the hardest, most furious and enveloping album I’ve heard from these shores for a wee while.” Рdiskant.net

LOVE POTION – Ejaculator CD (Japanese Pressing + extra tracks + OBE) – RM 30
Copenhagen harsh desperadoes!
‚ÄúOver-the-top aggressive speedy hardcore that sets new standards for the K-town scene, can’t really remember when I experienced such a sickass explosion of desperate energy. The very best of 80’s Boston and Japanese hardcore seem to be channelled through Love Potion like a succubus with an unhealthy deathwish.” – Low cut
‚ÄúFucking furious shit here. Massive fast hardcore that brings to mind a poisonous mix of Poison Idea, Fleshrevels and Bastard. The vocals are absolutely seething and there’s all kinds of sinister guitar work going on under the massive riffs. Fuck Yeah! The lyrics to Stabbed in the face make me happy. This is burly shit, and these fellas loose none of their crushing power even during the few brief moments when they slow down the pace to rock out for a bit. Ugly as fuck and a fresh breath of grimy violence that a¬¥int got shit in commen with a lot of the over-polished bullshit bands that fail to properly deliver this style heavy rock dosed hardcore. MIGRA VIOLENTA – Superficial CD – RM30
Furiously arse-kicking Argentina’s version of LOS CRUDOS meets DROPDEAD
‚ÄúBrilliant !!!! “Just as the title suggests, MV delivers 16 songs of crusty hardcore on this 10”, along with healthy dose of youthful energetic hardcore not unlike Lifes Halt and Tear it Up. this shit is ripping from start to finish. Higher pitched screams instead of guttural growls make for better listening (think Crudos), and the songs are well-written throughout. Hailing from politicaly tormented Argentina, the frustration and anger at the current situation comes through loud and clear, and is certainly more relevant than a bunch of kids from SuburbanTown USA yelling about how war sucks.‚Äù – MRR

MOUTH SEWN SHUT – Doomed Future Today CD (Digipack!) – RM30
Ex-Toxic Narcotic members going on a reggae/ska-crust collision! Woo hoo!!
‚ÄúMouth Sewn Shut takes a tried-and-true form of music – East Coast crust hardcore – and mixes up the formula again by dropping it onto a reggae beat. It sounds weird, but man, it’s awesome.
The record opens with a few all-out hardcore assaults, “When Is It Going To End” and “Ass Ass In 8”, which are great hardcore tunes, but by the third track “World War 3 Is Coming”, the guys have settled into what can only be called a “groove”, which is one of the last words I’d have ever thought one could so readily ascribe to a band with such hardcore roots.
It’s not just reggae grooves either, there is a decent bit of ska rearing its head as well. In a year that’s seen a ton of stellar ska already (fishbone, Mustard Plug) as well as amazing brutal hardcore (Wednesday Night Heroes, Appalachian Terror Unit), Mouth Sewn Shut has found a way to meld the sounds into an incredibly smooth amalgamation.‚Äù – Punkmusic

PLF (PRETTY LITTLE FLOWER) – Crushing Fury of Bastardization CD – RM25
Awesome, intense Texas grindcore meets heavy thrash-metal touches; with a great name to boot! Not a typical “grindcore” band, no way. This mixes pounding, thrashing swarms of brutal death-metal riffage with old-school speed-metal run downs and cool blasting areas. Totally unpredictable and almost shredded-apart at the seams but somehow the band keeps it tight and raging. Wish they have a bass player though. That’d would give it that missing beef.
“Stripped down, no-frills old school grind in the spirit of Terrorizer, Agathocles, and Repulsion (with thrash metal breaks, of course). No theatrics, garish stage sets, or band members that look like extras from Hellraiser. Just raw thrashy grind played by dudes who install your cable and change your oil.” Рthelivingdoorway.blogspot.com

POISON IDEA – Latest Will & Testament CD – RM30
The final album with Pig Champion (RIP Jan 31 2006)
“The latest Poison Idea record, from the first impression left by the packaging, seems like a somber album rooted in tragedy. Originally dedicated to a recently deceased fan, Poison Idea was struck the heaviest blow of all Рguitarist Pig Champion died of health complications. Latest Will and Testament explains itself Рthis record arrives as a way to remember Pig King.
This band, however, is Poison Idea. There is no time for somber reflection; the songs are too damn fast. The lineup remains the same from the early days, as does the sound. Poison Idea sound just as ferocious and antisocial as they did on Feel the Darkness. The usual rounds of crime, hatred, and depravity make appearances, as well as the theological warfare in the Middle East. Despite having such dark lyrical content, Poison Idea is somehow able to put a morbid twist of humor into their songs.
To reiterate, this band is Poison Idea, so if you’re not a fan of fast, rock and roll influenced hardcore, chances are this record will do nothing for you. Poison Idea may find a few new fans, but there’s nothing here that people who aren’t already fans will go out of their way to hear.” РEvan B, Scene Point Blank

PROTESTERA- Rock’n’Riot CD РRM25
Swedish anarcho-crust with dual female/male vocalists serving up powerful punk with an angry but tuneful political edge. 24-page booklet for the thinking punx!
“this is raging anarcho-punk with its fair share of slower, melodic and/or catchy parts thrown in between the more angry stuff. The lyrics are best described as pissed off with a lot of frustration, as well as hope. The booklet is massive with all the lyrics, as well as explanations, in both Swedish and English. A lot of reading while listening to this soundtrack to the revolution!” Рattackfanzine

RAW POWER – Screams From The Gutter + After Your Brain CD – RM30
Humongeously Ultra-important, Shark-feeding Frenzy Italian Stallions!! Two classics in 1 CD, Screams From The Gutter (1984) & After Your Brain (1986)
‚ÄúThis CD combines their essential Paul Mahern (Zero Boys) produced “Screams from the Gutter” record with the mighty follow-up, “After Your Brain” . You get 30 blistering hardcore songs in all with great VINCE RANCID artwork that gives Pushead a run for his money! Includes the absolutely crucial tracks “State Oppesssion”, My Boss”, “Hate”, Nihilist” , “We Shall Overcome” and “You’re Fired”. When Screams came out in 1984 it was certainly the first Italian HC record to get wide attention in the world of punk, outside of Italy, particularly in the U.S. as it was released by a U.S. label cuz it was recorded in Indianapolis two thirds into RAW POWER’s first U.S. tour. Paul Mahern of Zero Boys produced it at the studio he worked at. It was recorded in one day. This CD combines both absolutely classic and essential RAW POWER albums.‚Äù – Dead beat

REGULATIONS – Regulations CD – RM30
Swedish barking school of old-hardcore (upgraded!)
“A few years ago a band from Sweden decided to start taking that Early California sound back to heart. After 2 of the best 7” released this decade, Regulations have finally recorded an LP. Regulations spawned from Swedish Circle Jerk-ers ExTxA, but added a darker, more melodic feel. Along with Copenhagen’s Young Wasteners and No Hope for the Kids, these guys have been bringing Northern Europe into Southern California.
This twenty-four and a half minute slab of wax is the best piece of punk I have heard in 2005. Oddly enough, this is on Havoc Records, but there is no hint of D-beat or studded denim vests. This is just a solid piece of proto-hardcore. If this doesn’t make you feel like you’ve stepped into Hollywood circa 1980, nothing will. Even the sound quality sounds grainy, much like the early LA recordings. The vocals are sung in a strained voice that doesn’t seem to bother much with key or tone, just snotty fury. At times the singer reminds me of Stiv Bators of Dead Boys. The guitar tone shares a lot with that of TSOL.
If these guys are trying to emulate the Frontier sound, they’re doing an A+ job. While I do not normally condone bands trying to recreate sounds of the past, I have to give these guys credit. Regulations is a really good album all the way through.” РScenepointblank

REGULATIONS – Electric Guitar CD – RM30
‚ÄúSeven new studio tracks on the A side. Following in the proven Regulations style of going back to the roots of hardcore punk, circa 1980. Catchy, snotty, raw, hardcore punk that would fit right in on Dangerhouse records or the Boston Not L.A. compilation. B side features both 7’s (now out of print) as bonus tracks.‚Äù – Borxoff

RUNNIN’ RIOT РBoots & Ballads CD РRM25
Belfast boisterous Street-Punk Oi! Oi! Oi!
“A band here that have done their time, paid attention to detail and reaped the benefits massively here with what is a classic album full of well organised songs that reflect an outfit who pack a punch and know how to create a rabble rousing rhythm that is liable to be up there with the best. This is genuine working class Oi that has all the backstreet grime, cobblestone realism and boots and braces passion that so many bands have lost in the midst of their self-inflated egos. For me a true indication of a big-hearted working class outfit.” РFungalpunk

++++++++++++++++++++++++++‚Ä®‚Ä®SCHLIESSMUSKEL – 1986-89, Sehet, Welch Ein Untergang! CD – RM25‚Ä®‚Ä®A collection of 2 albums and 1 Ep on one CD by one of the most popular early 80s German punk bands ever; crazy, breakneck punk rock of the manic melodic-kind. ‚Ä®‚Ä®‚ÄúAs early as 1986 the band published their debut 6-song-cult single “Komm, setz dich zu uns”. In 1987 the maybe fastest longplay record with German lyrics to that date was released ‚Äì “Untergang der abendl?§ndischen Kultur”. 1989 saw the probably sweetest record since Toten Hosen’s Opel-Gang, “Sehet, welch ein Mensch”. ‚Ä®‚Ä®These three early milestones of the band are now re-released on one CD. 36 (!) songs ranging from one to two minutes in duration present the band in their angriest, funniest and craziest phase. They show, what made SCHLIESSMUSKEL unique and remind us of the charme of the 80ties punk scene, a time when bands still developed their own characters more frequently than today. ‚Ä®‚Ä®Their songs have a strange, sick undertone, enforced by the rather dark lyrics; despite the feer, self-doubts, and dark stories, there is also a large dose of humor in it, blending in irony and comedy at times.‚Äù – Plasticbomb‚Ä®

SEVERED HEAD OF STATE – Power Hazard CD – RM 30
Hardcore-punk connoisseurs everywhere would already know this “supergroup” lah.
“Severed Head of State return with nine punishing new tracks. Hard driving riffs and angry vocals give this release a real fist pumping intensity. A lot of the songs are more mid tempo in the tradition of mid period Poison Idea and other hardcore punk bands that took some cues from Motorhead. Severed Head of State have been going for ten years now, but are a band with no geographic center and with all members playing in other bands.
Guitarist Todd Burdette (Tragedy, His Hero Is Gone, Warcry) delivers some really searing guitar riffs on this LP and the guitar tone is perfect for the style, biting and corrosive like battery acid. Jack Control (World Burns to Death) has always impressed me with his raw and angry vocals and well thought out lyrics. A lot of bands write about the horror of war and man’s inhumanity to man just because it’s what fits the music.
When I read Jack’s lyrics I see that he’s looking beyond the black and white pictures of war victims in the history books. The atrocities are not the result of one criminal act, but of the recurring process of unrestrained power and authority run amok. The bleak lryics and their focus on oppression and atrocity are a searing reminder that there is much to be done and things will probably get worse before they get any better.
I’ve always though bassist Kelly Halliburton (Masskontroll, Defiance, Clusterbombunit, Resist) had some of the best style in hardcore dropping in some of his crucial Discharge style “walking” bass fills. Drummer Chris Pfeffer (Signal Lost, Storm the Tower, Scorched Earth Policy) holds it all together with some sick and precise beats.‚Äù ‚Äì havocrex

++++++++++++++++++++++++++‚Ä®‚Ä®SNIFFING GLUE – I‚Äôm Not Alright CD – RM25‚Ä®‚Ä®21-song with most songs staying within the 2 minutes blasts! Old-school style hardcore-punk from Germany with serious nods towards Black Flag, Jerry‚Äôs Kids, DKs etc. ‚Ä®‚Ä®‚ÄúAfter a stellar LP and subsequent 7′, along with countless shows SNIFFING GLUE are releasing ‘i’m not alright’. It seems that SNIFFING GLUE have gotten popular for their tight and nimble approach to hardcore-punk. ‚Ä®‚Ä®’i’m not alright’ is another retro record that sounds fresh in the modern day sound scape – authentic, energetic, with lots of anger, and with speed by time – all of which is build on a foundation of solid songwriting, incredible lyrics, and the occasional inclusion of a catchy melody from start to finish. ‚Ä®‚Ä®The 9 new tracks (plus one additional cover by a german punk-rock classic) on ‘i’am not alright’ are as good as any ’80s Reagan-era hardcore-punk record you’ve ever heard…so yeah if you want to get some kick-ass snotty tunes without fashion styled shit and tough attitudes…or you already got rid off all those classic bands that they always get compared with (bla bla…CIRCLE JERKS, BLACK FLAG…blabla), get this shit as soon as you possibly can. ‚Ä®‚Ä®Maybe a record so angry and powerful that it is bound to create an instant slam-dance party in your house? Well, right you are!‚Äù – crucial attack‚Ä®‚Ä®‚Äú…completely insane hardcore-punk in the best ’80s reagan-era style. The sound is somewhere between those hyped stateside bands (GOVERNMENT WARNING, DIRECT CONTROL etc.), with nods to classic bands of yesterday like CIRCLE JERKS and “My war & damaged” era BLACK FLAG. ‚Ä®‚Ä®A strong emphasis on catchy riffs combined with plentiful tempo changes and gang vocals. It’s a rager and it’s dirty, snotty as ape shit. New Jersey’s Rabid Hardcore-Punk Monsters!
‚ÄúFor those uninitiated, these guys play straight hardcore/punk with no bullshit. You’ve got your gruff yelling, simple chord progressions, succinct lead riffs, ample tempo changes, etc. From super fast ragers like the 20-second “In Case You Didn’t Notice, I’m a Martyr” to slower and longer tracks like the plodding title track (which is actually an instrumental complete with slightly heavier rhythms and tons of chaotic leads).‚Äù – HHA

THE DEATH OF HER MONEY – Spirit of the Stairwell CD – RM30 (HIGHLY-RECOMMENDED!!)
The bastard sons of prime-evil GODFLESH & PITCHSHIFTER!
“The trio from South Wales blend an appreciation for modern, heavy music together with an experimental edge to create a swirling, hypnotic maelstrom of repetitive, naturally grooving stoner-rock, kind of like Neurosis meets My Bloody Valentine meets Sonic Youth meets Can. THE FLYING LUTTENBACHERS РRetrospektiw IV CD РRM25
Manic free-death-punk-jazz-no-wave crazies from Chicago.
‚ÄúThe Flying Luttenbachers were an instrumental unit led by multi-instrumentalist / composer / producer Weasel Walter.[1] The Luttenbachers have created a large body of work focusing on an agenda of musical extremity and dissonance. Over the course of the band, the personnel has shifted numerous times around the artistic leadership of Walter, each line-up revealing a different part of the Flying Luttenbachers’ aesthetic. The music has run a gamut from intense, all-acoustic free improvisation, to complex, modernistic rock composition; pure electronic noise to primitive punk-inspired jazz. The music defies idiomatic clich?© and is steadfastly abstract, choosing to work outside of pre-existing genres in order to attain an original fusion.[2] Walter has been quoted as drawing inspiration from the fields of hardcore punk, black metal, progressive rock, free jazz, no wave, electronic noise, contemporary classical, Balinese gamelan and Noh music.‚Äô – Wikipedia

THE NOW-DENIAL – Mundane Lullaby 2008 CD (Japanese Pressing with OBE strip) – RM30
Furious Krauts mixing driving, muscular, pissed-off rock’n’roll with crust heaviousity and 70s hard rock!
‚ÄúFormerly a perfectly serviceable German d-beat band with an unhealthy Motorhead obsession and a singer that jumped around a lot, The Now Denial have suddenly belched up a definite contender for punk album of the year alongside Skitkids and Wolfbrigade (or was that last year?). They’re still doing what they did before, but they’ve refined the formula, come up with better, catchier riffs and upped the ante sonically so it sounds totally heavy and harsh. The Now Denial were always a more fun, throwaway proposition compared to the Portland lot, and with the healthy injection of variety (the second track is well swingy) you’ve got something that straddles serious and playful with consummate ease.‚Äù – collective-zine

THIS TIME WE WILL NOT PROMISE AND FORGIVE – Ê?åË©û„ÇíË™?„Åæ„Å™„Åщ?ñ‰ª£„Å?Á?ô„Åê (Japanese Pressing) – RM30
Japanese melodic post-hardcore with spoken word moments!
Blasting the sound of mid 90’s such bands as Twelve Hour Turn, Holy Shroud, Piebald, Get Up Kids, Fugazi, Serotnin, Four Hundred Years.
‚ÄúCombining members from bands such as Killie, this album shows the band attempting a style of emo that is similar to that which was started in the mid-90’s. The delicate balance of chaos and beauty is an adept one, by adding pristine guitars that trickle over the soundscape like soft, sweet rain, whilst having howling vocals shout over the mix. A prime example of this is the second track; ‚ÄúÁ?Æ„ÅçÂøò„Çå„ÅüÊâãÁ¥ô‚Äù which commits all of these aural actions flawlessly, and is reminiscent of the early works by There Is a Light That Never Goes Out. This combination of several musical elements allows for an unadulterated sense of passion and emotion that other vintage emo bands are now notorious for. And not once does the album as a whole come across as incoherent or complex; it is a simplistic album with many a perceptible groove. It is within these perceptible grooves however, that a whole new sense of direction comes through the blaring cymbals, melodic tranquility, and quaint yet just sense of exigency. This sense is nostalgia.‚Äù – Sputnikmusic.com

THREATS – Twelve Punk Moves CD – RM25
80s Scotland UK82 + Oi! Hybrid, Finally with Their Debut Album.
‚ÄúThe Threats were an extremely minor underground Scottish punk quartet during the Oi! heyday. A groundswell of interest in forgotten punk bands of the ’70s and ’80s (similar to the Nuggets-inspired trawls through the ’60s garage rock bands a generation before) inspired the group to re-form and release their first proper album, 2003’s Twelve Punk Moves. A third of the tracks were written and performed by the original Threats, with the remainder new tunes that sound eerily similar to the older material.‚Äù

TROPIEZO – Creando Nuevos Enemigos CD – RM20
Puerto Rico’s answer to Los Crudos! Fastcore to the max!
“It appears these kids are making one helluva concerted effort to become the Minutemen of modern hardcore. This is the third release I’ve seen from them in the past twelve months, with another sixteen songs that rarely pass the two-minute mark to add onto an already heaping pile of similar tunes. Mind you, I’m not complaining, ’cause they are easily one of the best bands out right now, but one has to wonder where the fuck they find the time to crank out so many songs, let alone rehearse them to the level of taut, stop-on-a-dime perfection they consistently turn in? Do they have jobs? Do they sleep? Are they human? That said, this is another collection of spastic hardcore that flies from one tempo to the next mid-song in a way that has to be heard to be understood, delivered with a level of precision one expect more from a Teppan-Yaki style chef than a punk band. What all this hyperbolic rambling translates into is that this is one prolific and seriously badass band and they’ve released another CD worthy of much attention and listening time.” РJimmy Alvarado (discodehoy.com)

‚Äú‚Ķother than them having some sense of rhythm and melody, they also feature a pleasant variety to their songs, a trait very uncommon to grindcore bands. WOLFBRIGADE – Coma Live CD – RM30
What you don’t know WOLFBRIGADE?
“The fifth album from the Scandinavian hardcore steamroller with fourteen new tracks of down tuned crustcore blasts. Their strongest studio recording since the excellent All Day Hell, Comalive finds the band in peak form blending obvious elements of Poison Idea, Mot??rhead, Discharge and death metal. Formed as WOLFPACK in 1995 by members of ANTI-CIMEX, OBSCURE INFINITY and HARLEQUIN. The result was a mix of all style but with its main direction towards hardcore/crust. This lineup released two albums and a bunch of EPs including a split 7-inch with Skitsystem until a new singer was found in 1999 and another album was done. After this the band decided to change their name to WOLFBRIGADE and has since then changed drummer in 2002, bassplayer in 2004, been in hiatus between 2004-2006 and released another three albums and a bunch of EPs. Comalive is Wolfbrigade’s second album since their hiatus some years ago and proves that the Lychantro punks are back on top swinging with more touring in 2009.” Рomegaorder
