Dolorous Canter: Chicago Post-HC
Dolorous Canter appear just like any other interesting band from the States, but upon further inspection, you’ll see there are two Asian looking blokes in the line-up. One of them is Nazarin Abdul Hamid, the drummer for the Chicago-based post-hc/emo quartet. He was also the drummer for an old local band called Monkeywrench.
Truth is I can’t remember much of Monkeywrench myself, that is apart from its appearances on some gig flyers and also my Blasting Concept column back in the mid-90s. According to Nazarin’s blog, they used to run with The Butterfingers crew, maybe a part of the then too many Seattle-influenced bands, however Nazarin wrote that he was more into the harder, more precise and definitely non-slacker ‘tude of post-HC bands such as Helmet.
I do wonder if Monkeywrench ever released a demo or something recorded, but Nazarin’s new band Dolorous Canter is a treat if you are into the more introspective sort of emo.
