Blackfire: Lahirnya Dari Api!
Yup! The original article. The forefathers of them all. The ones who started it all back in 1982!! This is where the name Silkhannaz came from, adapted and used by a band who worshipped them. And guess what? They’ve just recorded an album, their first ever after so many very rare live bootlegs have been changing hands worldwide. What more stunning is that they have a MySpace page and it offers a glimpse into two songs in rehearsal mode!

A suitably bombastic article follows:
Of Fire We Were Born
What would be in your rotten mind, when the word legendary is mentioned to you? You might think its something far away behind yet still being praised and glorified for being the originators, pioneers, founders of something extremely valuable. Rock n Roll music which has been taken a step further into sulphurous realms in the late 70s/ early 80s by gods like BLACK SABBATH, VENOM, MOTORHEAD, CELTIC FROST, IRON MAIDEN, AC/DC, DIO, and BATHORY who lead the Metal revolutions causing global musical desecration. This phenomenon somehow crushed all the boundaries, and Malaysia (which has never been on the map of World Domination) was to be polluted by this strange and devilish music called Metal.
Somewhere in 1982, some twisted youths namely Hadi, Azmi, Aidy and Brie decided to form a band called METAL GHOST to fulfill their passion of playing heavy and hard music. They were true rebellious Heavy Metal supporters even before that, even before VENOM released their cult Black Metal album in 1982. They begin to feel that the darker side is the better side for them. So, the bands direction was driven even deeper into the dark side. Therefore, the band changed their moniker into BLACKFIRE in 1984 eclusively. The infernal birth of BLACKFIRE took place up north of Malaysia where Metal was still very young. BLACKFIRE got bigger and bigger since those days. There was no problem at all with for practicing since they also had their own rehearsal room. Within that glorious period, there have been so many cult songs composed and its became a hell of creativity when BLACKFIRE brought forth the formula of Malay-lyrics-meet-Black Metal mixed with Asiatic elements in the first place. These are strong quality possessed by BLACKFIRE, which was already known to all. The superb lyrics of Azmi were of where no one dared to reach before him. BLACKFIRE themselves dedicated their musical souls to outside of this world, and they declared Tiada sempadan dalam dunia kita!. BLACKFIRE were ahead of their time, and in the mid 80s, songs like Spirit, The Sign, Black Hell, Nuclear, Kedatangan 1, Kedatangan 2, and was too extreme for many of people. Sadly, their originality and musical extraordinaire was not being appreciated. They were alone fighting for true Metal and upon the fiery path they have walked
Years Of The Lord
At the time, many couldnt accept the music they were playing, but BLACKFIRE already got their own true believers from small community of demented and sinister music fans. No fans so what? BLACKFIRE was born just to create music directly from its heart and to stay totally obedient to the Underworld majesty – sworn to be loyal, to be grim but still simple, yet posses a dirty and harsh sound. Its been quite sad for their followers as BLACKFIRE decided not to record any official demos or EPs unless it was for their debut album. Anyhow, they still managed to record some of their rehearsal tracks for personal usage. Its a similar situation on that time (or even today) where almost all heavy Metal bands were shadowed by drugs and alcohol problems. BLACKFIRE couldnt escape from that either. Realizing that these were personal matters, and everyone had their own right to do things their way, everything then was moving quite slowly. Surely it hurts to see how people change; as though some foreign thing has taken over their minds and they were no longer the people you knew before. So, the weak had to leave and let the strong continue the fight. The burning ambitions never faded away from the souls of Azmi and Hadi, and that is why even until today both them are free from drugs and alcohol. They simply let their music be their top priority. A new guitarist was added into the ranks, and he was formerly with the Thrash Metal band. Just shortly after performing with BLACKFIRE in several live-shows, he was also kicked out for the same problems as the previous members of the band. Another barbaric axeman (also their state mate) was chosen to fill the empty position thus revealing the legendary and all-powerful line-up of BLACKFIRE: Azmi on vocalls, Hadi on drums, Brie on bass and Yazid on guitars.
From their terroristic live performance in their hometown of Kangar, BLACKFIRE began their cruel invasion toward the infernal city of Kuala Lumpur. There, the band became violently active and progressed on a very huge level of extremity. They didnt take long to tyrannically reign the new-born empire of heavy music and songs like Lahir Dari Api, Sil-Khannas, Pendita Gila Berbicara, Prince Of Hell, Kemenangan Disaat Akhir became pure cult and fine examples to the breeding Malaysian Metal aggression. One of the memorable moments were at the Stadium Negara in 1987 where BLACKFIRE performed their sadistic mantras together with legendary Rock/Heavy Metal bands like SAXO, MAY, DFEBIAN, SCANDAL,SOFEA, METALLIAN, BURNMARK and more. Still the concept of Black Metal that they were preaching remained mysterious to the majority of the crowd. There, the audience finally learnt a lesson when they witnessed the real Metal assault and were terrified by the blood drinking and spilling action by BLACKFIRE. Again the band was persecuted by the local media for their extreme showmanship. Rumours also related them with Satan-worshiping. But who cares? Even Rock n Roll was branded a devilish music before! Those rumours only made the band more popular and it became a great promotion method for them.
Damned For All Eternity
The late 80s saw the coming of Black/Death Metal fever into the Eastern region. Products of sonic and compact technicality – bands like DEATH, DESTRUCTION, SARCOFAGO and SLAYER inspired the local youngsters to form bands. Spiritually, BLACKFIRE became their major influence and the existence of BLACKFIRE was welcomed more than ever. When bands like RATOR and BRAINDEAD recorded their first demo in late 80s, they became the true pride of the Malaysian Underground scene. It was the opposite for BLACKFIRE, who chose to stay in the depth of the Underground without any official demo but always ready for live performances. Another unforgettable and ritualistic live show took place in the Semua House, Kuala Lumpur. There, a lot of fans unofficially recorded the live set and spread it to the whole Underground community. Strange but true, even without any proper recorded tracks, the high potential of the band was realized by one established record company. So, BLACKFIRE were the first extreme band ever to get an offer for a debut album! Anyway, because of some disagreement in their policy towards songwriting, BLACKFIRE refused to sign any contract with them. The record label should already know that BLACKFIRE wanted all song compositions to be done by themselves! Playing a product which resulted from their own creativity is what BLACKFIRE believed in and supported for all these years. To change the direction into a slow rock or a more radio-friendly band was something that seemed impossible for a band like BLACKFIRE. They knew they were better off dead than to change their faith.
The Everlasting And Neverfading
The 90s emerge with mayhem. So many bands come out with Death/Black Metal, which is now a big trend all over the globe. Some bands seek for originality and some others choose to follow. Black BLACKFIRE fire remained as the leading force, but things were pretty slow at the time. Then, a break appeared when Yazid had to quit the band to migrate to Sarawak, where he pursued a better carrier in music for himself. The only thing heard about him was after the release of Sarawaks premier Death Metal band KREMATIONs Reborn EP, where he was involved as the producer. It seemed that he was in good health after all and still rocking hard over there! Brie also chose to leave but he continued with a normal life he became a teacher and got married. So, only Azmi and Hadi were left keeping on thrashing and fighting. A lot of auditions for a guitarist and bassist were held by them, but they just couldnt find the right demons to replace the original members who left. Many of them just came and left, being only interested in the cult status the band had achieved, when they shouldve realized that they had to persevere with BLACKFIRE because glamour was never the point for the band in the first place. On that slowing moment, Azmi also got married but that was not the reason for him to quit; he was always willing to fight with BLACKFIRE as long as his contributions were needed. This didnt stay up too long as his time for the band was severely limited after he became a father .This somehow brought pressure and hardship towards Hadi, who had remained the core of BLACKFIRE. And it was him who traveled all around to search for the new guitarist for BLACKFIRE. Sadly, this didnt work out and BLACKFIRE was never again seen after 1991.
All Hails The Highlords
What would new millennium promise for a band like BLACKFIRE? While most of the headbangers thought BLACKFIRE were dead, but the truth remained that both Hadi and Azmi were still standing high and proud. Hadi succeeded in finding his new axeman, -named Core – after 8 guitarists before him vanished through the black flames. It seemed he was the most loyal amongst all the others since he managed to stick with Hadi for quite some time. With Core they entered the studio once again to record some tracks in Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur. Some problems occurred during the recording and the process only went through halfway. They returned to their hometown frustrated but still went on playing the music which was a part of their life. After all, its only the heavy and evil music that kept BLACKFIRE alive.
Just shortly after that they found the maniac Rammy to fill up the gap as the 4-strings bass blaster. Thus formed the premier BLACKFIRE line-up, as onfirmed by both of the remaining original members as being the most bestialistic line-up of BLACKFIRE ever: Hadi continuing his battery, Azmi providing the vokalls, Core supplying riffmagick, and newcomer Rammy lending the bass. After a few rehearsals things seemed to be going well for the band. They planned for another glorious comeback. Discussions were made between the band and an old friend from an established extreme Metal label. BLACKFIRE never paid attention to what was selling in the market, for them it was just going to be a friendly deal. So, they entered Nebiula Sound Recording in the middle of 2002 for a debut album.
Sadly enough, Cores service has been terminated during the recording process, and Jadam, which also the band sound engineer fulfilled the empty position as guitarist. Anyhow, the studio session being drag from time to time, as everyone is busy with other commitments.
And in 2004 sees that legendary Sil Khannazs axeman, Joe Slaughter is coming home, and showed interests in these Blackfires project. So, he was more than welcome to lay down his remarkable guitarworks in the recordings. So, another new line-up established.
In July 2005, what it seems as impossible to many , still Blackfire managed to finished the recording. So, lift your fists in the air now!
So now you know that what youre holding on to now is not only a piece of hardship Blackfire have endured. The songs recorded here is nothing but a solid and classic Metal songs beyond the 7 Gates of Hell. We just hope that it will please all the old-fashioned Metal supporters and its time to raise high your blood-filled cup once again!
